Saturday morning the team took a trip to the Palace of the Parliament, formerly known as the House of the People.  According to the tour guide it is the second largest government building in the world by square footage next to the Pentagon, and the fourth largest building in the world by volume.

That would be especially impressive if not for the background of the building.  Along with many other egomaniacal plans, this building was to be the crowing achievement for Nicolae Ceaušescu and his wife Elena.  These plans nearly destroyed the nation, and are certainly a major factor behind today's problems.  The story is at once riveting and disgusting.  The Ceaušescus were stopped before they could go any further by the Revolution of December 1989.  They were executed on Christmas Day of that same month. There are many good books available at the public library if you have further interest in this subject.

Please accept our apologies that there are no pictures from our party for the basketball camp participants, but the light is too dim for the digital camera.  We had nearly 40 people attend the party at the District Center, ranging in ages from 5 to 60.  It was a fun time of food, games and a sing-along.  Many of the young people plan to be back for Sunday service, so we will have a chance to say goodbye then.  Saying goodbye is always the toughest part of the trip.
