Brad Mirk returned to Bucharest by himself, carrying 82 basketballs for distribution to the youth in Bucharest.  On a playground in the south end of the city, over 65 basketballs were given to youth of all ages.  Time was spent playing games and talking. Missionaries Jon and Margaret Scott were enthusiastic about the possibilities of operating a basketball "camp" in order to reach out to young people as a ministry of the church.  Plans were made to pursue this avenue, with an American team providing the opportunity of basketball, and the church in Bucharest providing the follow-up efforts.

A team from Washington, Iowa conducted the first basketball "camp", at the National Stadium facilities in Bucharest.  The Lord blessed this effort in many ways, including using the "camp" to bring a young Romanian man named Chris Penel to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.  Today, Chris is following a call to reach out to young people through athletics in order to help them realize how much God loves them.
